The Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Wednesday it's monitoring the scarlet fever outbreak in Hong Kong closely.
At least one child has died from the disease in the city.
The authorities in Hong Kong have recorded 40 new cases in the past few days, pushing the total to 459 this year, the highest annual total in the city and more than three times the figure for last year.
MOH said Scarlet fever is a disease caused by a bacterial infection.
Signs and symptoms of scarlet fever include fever, sore throat, rashes on the skin, and a characteristic "strawberry" tongue.
It is transmitted by respiratory droplets and direct contact with patients or carriers.
MOH advises members of the public, especially those travelling to Hong Kong or other areas with reported outbreaks of scarlet fever, to practise good personal hygiene and sanitation.
They should wash their hands regularly and thoroughly and cover their nose and mouth while sneezing or coughing.
They should also avoid overcrowded places if possible.
