Before offering his thoughts on Mr Obama’s Wednesday press conference, Mark Halperin, a Time magazine columnist and co-author of the bestselling book “Game Change” about the 2008 presidential campaign, asked whether a delay button in the MSNBC studio was working.
“Are we on the seven-second delay today?” Halperin asked. “I wanted to characterise how I thought the president behaved.” After jokey encouragement from the morning show’s hosts, he said: “I thought he was kind of a d--- yesterday.”
After it turned out that the delay button was not working, Halperin offered “an absolute apology, heartfelt” on air. MSNBC described the pundit’s comments as “completely inappropriate and unacceptable” and suspended him indefinitely from the network.
