Hydrocodone Demand Spurs Increase in Robberies

Friday 1 July 2011

fox point police arrested a 52-year-old Grafton woman on June 21 for theft during her cleaning job.
The victim, a 72-year-old woman who lives in the Portico's Apartments, accused her cleaning lady of stealing money from her change container. The plot thickened when she realized the cleaner took more than just loose change.
The victim said she came home from work and opened her change container to place more change in it, finding a large amount of money missing.
She called her son, who lives in the building next door, and told him about the theft. But while she was on the phone with him, he said he could see someone who appeared to be a cleaning lady in the parking lot. He described the woman to his mother, who confirmed that it was her cleaning lady.
The son went out into the parking lot and confronted the cleaning lady by saying he would like “the money that my mother gave you for cleaning back” as she is dissatisfied with your service. He also asked her for the money that she stole from his mother, and she said she did not take any money. According to the report, the cleaning lady removed $100 from her purse gave it to him, and asked that he does not call the police.
While the officer was speaking with the victim, he observed a metal basket on her table with several prescription medication bottles. He asked her if she could check the bottles to determine if any pills had been taken.
“Oh yeah, she took some of my pills too,” she said. “I may have used 10 pillsl" leaving an estimated 24 pills stolen.
The officer asked the Grafton woman about the hydrocodone, and she repeatedly denied taking them. She said that she “made the mistake before” and was placed on probation. She told officers that four years ago, she was arrested by the Shorewood Police Department for stealing pain pills from her best friend.
After a half-hour interview, she finally admitted that she had taken the hydrocodone. Officers asked how many she took and she said she didn't know, she just poured the pills into her hand and shoved them into her pocket.
She was arrested for theft. Charges are pending.
